A new gang of Tai Chi leaders is on the loose!
Fifteen new Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention leaders were certified this past weekend on May 14 & 15, 2016 in San Francisco, CA. Master Trainer Robin Malby and her assistant, Terry Crews, returned to enlighten and delight us with the wonderful, artful exercise that is Tai Chi. We were proud to have all the participants pass the 2-day workshop! Congratulations everyone! We look forward to your Tai Chi class soon! ;) Hope you had a happy holiday! It's the new year, which means new classes! They are coming soon, so thank you for your patience!

Self-Help for the Elderly's 29th Annual Longevity Walkathon is just around the corner! Starting at 10:00AM on October 3rd, participants will be walking around Portsmouth Square on Kearny Street, between Washington and Clay Street, to raise money in support of funding for senior services. Tai Chi trainer LaNay Eastman, who is currently teaching at Manilatown Senior Center, has graciously volunteered to lead a Tai Chi workshop/demonstration at the Walkathon. LaNay is a fantastic trainer, and is much appreciated for her diligence and care with our participants. Come join us and support her! It'll be a walk in the park ;) Today, Self-Help for the Elderly serves approximately 35,000 seniors in four counties: San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Alameda. Self-Help promotes the independence, dignity, and self-worth of seniors by providing a comprehensive range of multicultural and multilingual services. Services include senior/social centers, employment, computer learning classes, housing, adult day health centers, residential care facilities, licensed homecare/hospice, and much more.
Today is September 23, 2015 -- the first day of fall! But arguably more important, it's the 8th Annual Falls Prevention Awareness Day (FPAD)! The day is observed to raise awareness about how to prevent fall-related injuries among older adults. This year's theme is Take a Stand to Prevent Falls. Falls are the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries among older adults. Falls threaten the safety and independence of seniors, and generate substantial economic and personal costs. However, falling can be prevented, and is not an inevitable result of aging. Through practical lifestyle adjustments, community partnerships, and evidence-based falls prevention programs, the number of falls among seniors can be greatly reduced. Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention is an evidence-based falls prevention program, proven to be effective among seniors.
